The 02 in London is operated by AEG, a leading sports and entertainments company with over 100 state-of-the-art venues worldwide. As there is a growing demand for an enhanced entertainment experience amongst both corporate and private clients, this project was part of improving the VIP experience.

BRIEF

To create an exclusive American Express Invites Lounge by redesigning an existing space to offer VIP guests a glamorous, exciting ‘backstage’ environment. This included a ‘stage door’ entrance and arrival corridor leading to theatrical themed bars, restaurant and lounge areas, plus a gantry area with a bookable private booth.

SOLUTION

The project contract was awarded to Overbury, who called on H&S to provide the specialist decorating made necessary by the design.

There were both logistical and practical obstacles to overcome as the project had to be completed between major events. Performances continued throughout the construction period, creating down time and ‘no-go’ areas which had to be accommodated within the schedule. H&S successfully created the distressed paint effect finish  specified by the designers to the full height of the ‘stage doors’ and carried out high level soffit spraying throughout the 3 storey space, working up to 8 metres high. We also used a specially sourced wallpaper to give the ceiling the appearance of metallic tiling and a Lincrusta wallpaper, with a special effect wash and seal, in the lounge seating areas.

OUTCOME

The redesigned space helps take the VIP experience at The 02 to a new level.  Overbury commented on our contribution to this success:
